Colombia vs England Betting Tips

by JohnnyBet from

It’s very rare when a team enters a football match wilfully wanting to lose, but you sense that was exactly the case when England met Belgium on Thursday.

Option 1: Win, top the group, play Japan in the Round of 16, potentially meet Brazil in the quarter finals.

Option 2: Lose, play Colombia in the Round of 16 and then one of Sweden or Switzerland in the last eight.

Gareth Southgate made eight changes to his usual starting eleven, and was ‘rewarded’ with a 0-1 defeat against the Belgians.

So now, England take on Colombia in the last 16 on Tuesday in Moscow.

1. England vs Colombia Odds Preview

The Colombians, for their part, have done well to qualify. They were reduced to ten men after just three minutes of their opener against Japan, and at that point they might have felt their World Cup 2018 campaign was cursed.

But they rallied well to beat Poland and Senegal without conceding a goal, and so any ultra-confidence that the English might have of reaching the quarter-finals needs to be tempered somewhat; these Colombians can really play.

But there can be only one winner, so let’s dip into our England vs Colombia betting tips to see if we can uncover who that might just be.

The bookmakers’ England vs Colombia odds are out, and they are firmly on the side of the English having made them their 2.17 favourites.

Colombia are a tempting price of 4.00, while the draw can be backed at 3.20.

2. Colombia vs England Prediction

There’s no denying that England have a slight advantage over their opponents before a ball has even been kicked.

They were able to rest all of their main starting eleven against Belgium, meaning that the team which takes to the Moscow turf will have had a whole week off from competitive action.

The Colombians, meanwhile, were embroiled in a manic, high tempo match against Senegal on Thursday, and so their recovery time will be significantly less.

The South Americans have also been harmed by the news that talisman James Rodriguez has picked up an injury. The talented attacker picked up a calf injury against the Senegalese, and now it looks likely he will miss the Round of 16 clash with the Three Lions.

And so it is advantage England, even if their record in knockout games of World Cups – two wins since 1990 – leaves a lot to be desired.

Perhaps the psychology of the players is wrong, or maybe the pressure gets to them?

In response, we would have to write that this England squad seems rather more level-headed than their predecessors, and with the Zen-like Gareth Southgate in charge preparations will be similarly calm and peaceful.

And so that leads us to the conclusion that our England vs Colombia predictions have to focus on a likely England victory. The Colombians looked lost without James against Senegal and Japan, and a well-rested English squad should have the energy and the class to see off their South America opponents.

England and Colombia head into the World Cup Round of 16 full of confidence, but who will prevail in Moscow? England vs Colombia betting odds point towards English team. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.

3. Team News

The biggest concern for Colombia is James Rodriguez. Question is if he will be fit for the match. He was absent from the training with other players but Jose Pekerman is not making any decisions yet and he told that the starting XI won't be announced until the last minutes.

When it comes to England, Dele Alli is returning to play and we are probably going to see him in the starting XI. John Stones is available too. We probably won't see Fabian Delph as he left for the birth of his child. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kyle Walker will sit on the bench due to yellow cards.

I would also go for England here, they will be well rested, plus Rodriguez was Colombia's main playmaker, without him they might struggle in the midfield.
