The Golden Globe is an award which is presented to those who have excelled in film and television. The accolade is awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on an annual basis and the awards ceremony is one of the entertainment highlights of the year.
The 2017 Golden Globe Awards will take place on the 8th January at the Beverley Hilton, Beverley Hills, California. It will be the 74th time the awards have taken place and the nominees for the various awards were announced on December 12th 2016.
This year the presenter will be actor and comedian, Jimmy Fallon. The American will follow in the footsteps of Ricky Gervais, who hosted the 2016 event.
1. Best Picture Drama
There are five nominees for Best Picture Drama and the favourite to win the award is Manchester by the Sea, which is Evens (2.00) at bet365. Many critics feel it should be Moonlight and this can be backed at 5/4 (2.25) with bet365. However, the real outsider is Hell or High Water at 16/1 (17.00) but the films chances should not be dismissed. This crime drama is a taught and tense film of brotherhood and family, which has been very well received and at great odds, offers great value.
Full Nominees: Manchester by the Sea 1/1, Moonlight 5/4, Hacksaw Ridge 7/1, Lion 14/1, Hell or High Water 16/1
2. Best Picture Musical or Comedy
The favourite to land the award for Best Picture Musical or Comedy is La La Land and the odds of 1/10 (1.10) at bet365, show just how strongly this film is fancied. The movie tells the story of an aspiring actress and musician, who are struggling to make ends meet as they pursue their dreams. Celebrating the history of musicals and Hollywood, plus starring two A-list stars, La La Land was always going to be difficult to beat. From the remaining films, Florence Foster Jenkins is perhaps the best bet and can be backed at 14/1 (15.00) with bet365.
Full Nominees: La La Land 1/10, 20th Century Woman 12/1, Florence Foster Jenkins 14/1, Deadpool 14/1, Sing Street 20/1
3. Best Actor Drama
Much like Best Picture Musical or Drama, this is an award which has a clear favourite and his name is Casey Affleck. Priced at 2/5 (1.40) with bet365, Affleck starred in Manchester by the Sea, which is also favourite to take the Best Picture award for Drama. That’s not to say there are not any other nominees in this category worth mentioning and expect to see Denzel Washington picking up awards for his performance in Fences, as the awards season really kicks in. However, at odds of 3/1 (4.00), the value is not there and Affleck looks a cert to pick up this award.
Full Nominees: Casey Affleck 2/5, Denzel Washington 3/1, Andrew Garfield 10/1, Joel Edgerton 10/1, Viggo Mortensen 16/1
4. Best Actress Drama
Much like the Best Actor category, there is an overwhelming favourite for the Best Actress award for Drama and that’s Natalie Portman, who is available at 1/3 (1.33) with bet365. Portman’s performance in the film Jackie was outstanding and is widely considered to be her most adult performance to date. However, Isabelle Huppert, who is on offer at 9/2 (5.50) with bet365, is also worth considering. Huppert starred as the CEO of a video game company trying to identify the man who raped her and delivered an outstanding performance.
Full Nominees: Natalie Portman 1/3, Isabelle Huppert 9/2, Amy Adams 7/1, Ruth Negga 11/1, Jessica Chastain 16/1
